Managers onlyClose your garage
Closing your garage takes it offline for everyone, keeps your records for an extended period in case you need them later, and gives you 30 days to change your mind. See our terms and conditions for more details.
Before you close
Download a copy of everything first. Nothing can be exported once the garage is closed. See Export your data.
Steps
- Open Settings and choose the Close garage tab.
- Read what happens, then choose Close garage.
- Under Garage name, type your garage's name exactly as it's shown.
- Enter your Current password.
- Choose Close garage to confirm, or Keep it open to go back.
You land on a page confirming the garage has closed, and you get an email saying the same.
What happens straight away
- Nobody on the team can use the garage. Anyone who signs in sees a page saying it has closed.
- A paid membership is cancelled at the end of the current billing period, and you aren't charged again. If you reopen before then, the membership carries on. If you reopen after, you need to restart it. A membership you'd already cancelled before closing stays cancelled when you reopen.
- You have 30 days to reopen. See Reopen a closed garage.
After 30 days
Removed:
- Customers' email addresses, phone numbers, postal addresses and notes on their customer records.
- Photos and videos.
- Job notes, notifications, inspection links, draft invoices and pending invites.
- Team members' email addresses.
- Your logo and team members' photos.
- Your garage's phone number.
- The accounts of team members who belong to no other garage that is open or can still be reopened, including yours if this was your only garage. Each person gets an email saying so.
Kept for 7 years:
- Your garage's name, address and VAT number.
- Team members' names and customers' names.
- Jobs, services and parts.
- Issued invoices, including the customer's name and address printed on each one.
After 7 years everything is deleted and your web address becomes available for someone else.
Good to know
- Only the owner can close the garage. That's the account that created it. Managers see an explanation instead of the button.
- Team members who belong to another garage can still open it from the garage list on the GarageActive website. The closed garage shows a Closed label there.
- Anyone with no other open garage sees Create a new garage on the closed page, so they can start again.
- Closing isn't the same as cancelling your membership. To keep the garage and stop paying, see Cancel or resume your membership.
- Once the garage is closed you can delete your account from the closed page. If you do that within the 30 days, nobody can reopen the garage. See Delete your account.
